Buzzing and clicking, the normal sounds of the BX engine.

You've got your new BX home and after playing with it for awhile you start to hear all these new sounds and wonder if theres something wrong. Theres that buzzing sound when you turn the key switch on and then theres that clicking sound that occurs about 10 - 20 sec's after you turn it off.
Well, rest assured, those are just some of the normal sounds the Kubota diesel engine in your BX makes during operation.

The buzzing sound you hear every time you turn the key on is your electric fuel pump operating. It's located under the floor pan just about directly under where you sit. The time to be concerned is when you don't hear it when you turn the key on.

That click you hear about 10 - 20 sec's after you shut the engine off ( turn the key switch off) is the electrical engine stop solenoid resetting. It operates off of a timer that is also installed on your BX.

That clicking sound you hear when you turn the key switch to the Glow plug position is normal too.

These well made diesel engines just about talk to you when they're running and some of the sounds they make are quite normal :D

Hi there Volfandt, I recently bought a used BX24, it had clicking and buzzing as you mentioned, so I was quite happy to hear that it was normal. However I decided to leave the battery connected overnite to see what would happen, as I suspected the battery was dead 2 days later and my machine now has 40 more hours that it had before. I guess I have a bad ignition switch or a stuck relay or something, I have been pokeing around, trying to find the problem, but without a shop manual, I probably will not have much suscess?? I wonder it this has happened to anyone else. also I cannot turn the engine off unless I put the headlights on, then it stops just as though the key is turned off. or I can take the plug off of the ignition switch. and it will stop then. even though the machine is not 2 years old, the warranty will probably not fix it since it was sent to a farm originally. it had 200 hours on it when I got it a fews days ago, now it reads 240, oh well, if anyone can aim me in the right direction, I would be thankful. Hi Carman605. Thanks for joining the BX Wiki - I hope you find it helpful.
Did you try asking your question on the TractorByNet forums? I recommend that you do, as it will have a larger readership there. (And Volfandt will see it there also.) What I'm trying to do with the Wiki is collect all the most informative BX information, but if you have a question that's not answered here, TractorByNet is probably the best place to ask it. Then once someone has come up with a good answer, we can publish the answer here in an organized location. (Andy)

Hey carman605, sorry to hear of this problem, but with a little troubleshooting you'll have it working right again.

Theres a couple quick checks/fixes to try before you should go any deeper.
1) The battery going dead is a common problem w//BX's and it is usually due to moisture getting into the emergency flasher switch causing the switch to short out which causes the flashers to go on and off all on their own. Funny but it usually happens when no one is around to see. The mositure usually comes from high pressure water being squirted on the dash when washing. I caught mine doing it quite by accident the day after I 1st washed it. The fix is to disconnected the leads, pop the switch up and out and either shake the moisture out and/or use a blow drier on it. Avoiding future direct pressurized water on the dash had stopped this problem for me since.
Thats the easy check/fix, yours may need additional troubkeshooting.

2) The engine not shutting down via the key swotch is another commoin problem w/BX's. Especially BX's that have had additional electrical devices wired into the tractor such as lights, radio etc.. Theres a 12 power source located under the seat that alot of folks use to power accessories and this power source shares tha same 20 amp fuse as does the engine stop solenoid.and when this fuse blows the key won't shut it down. Check all your fuses and connections making sure all are good.
Then if this doesn't fix it, check all your electrical connections and make sure they are good & tight, other than the key switch I would suspect a wireing connection problem before I would a device failure.
The warranty is good for 2 yrs from the original date of purchase and if it falls within this is should still be covered, Yu may try to contact a dealer and inquire.
Good luck & let us know.

I contacted a dealer he told me at first to contact kubota direct, I did and they told me to go back to the dealer with their letter, they were nice to me and they changed the floor board, and put a new seat switch, and new ign switch in it, and it now runs perfect. used it recently with a 11 inch snow fall, in Rhode Island love it thanks all Ray Trinque Do you find this valuable?
