Bx 24
Apr 20 2008, 10:19 AM EDT
I am considering purchasing a new bx 24 I'm on 5 acres of hilly ground part of which I am growing olive tree's ,citrus and fruit and nut tree's. I was going to spec it out with Bush Hog SQ142 Rotary Cutter,60" landpride Rear Blade RB548, Landpride Landscape Rake LR0560 54" mid mount mower. On the FEL I was considering putting on a tooth bar FTB to suit by W.R Long. Can the tooth bar be taken off when you are not using the FEL for digging? Would you substitute the tooth bar with the W.R Long Wear bar for general use,I'm assuming that they would share the same holes on the FEL.A suggestion was made that I put on a Rankin thumb to the BH I was a little concerned that they would have to weld it on to prevent slipage but if I needed to get it off at some stage this would be a problem . Does anyone have any experience with this thumb how does it compare to the Bro-Tek? in quality , strengh etc. Has anybody had slippage with this thumb? I had a look at the Bro-Tek web site and was impressed with the rear and front skid plates due to the fact that I seem to have rocks that grow out of the ground , has anybody who has fitted the rear skid had any conflict when putting on there Mid Mount Mower. Bro-tek,s ripper and trenching plow look quite good if anybody has purchased these items could they tell me if they are happy with these items ? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Firstly I'd say that you'll get more replies to questions if you post them on TractoryByNet in the Kubota forum - it's more active than the Discussion forum here. However I'll answer a few of your points. The WR Long bar attaches with bolts, so in that sense you can remove it. I think you can also fold it back into the bucket but I expect that still requires the bolts to be loosened. I'm planning to get one myself. I've not seen any mention of the Wear Bar in the context of BX24s - I do not think most owners use one. Similarly Rankin thumb does not seem to get mentioned (on TractorbyNet) by BX24 owners. Most have the Wallenstein or Bro-Tek thumbs. The Wallenstein has had slipping issues (as mentioned on the Thumb page of this site). The Bro-Tek does not slip and does not require welding. The rear skidplate should work with the MMM - there is a removable "door" in the skidplat to accommodate the PTO attachment. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I was also looking at the B2320 /2620 series but I am a little indecisive , my ground is hilly the lower part has no rocks but as I have already mentioned the top section is quite rocky and a little steep, what type of ground are you on ? Would you recommend the BX series or the B series. Do you find this valuable? |

I picked Kubota because of how pleased the owners on TractorByNet seem to be with their machines, and the value for money, and the BX24 model because I didn't need anything larger. so I can't comment on the B series. My ground is also hilly - there are some slopes I am afraid to take the machine. I do not have filled tires - but I'm thinking about doing that at my next service.

I spoke with Richard from Bro- Tek www.bro-tek.biz/ and I have purchased the rear wheel spacers this will add on 2" per side to your overall wheel width , he said these are great , so have a look at them on his site or give him a call.

I can't find anything about the spacers on his website, how about a little more info.Although the manual for my BX23 specifically warns against using spacers I think it would be a good idea. My tractor feels very tippy on side hills but I don't have anything to compare it to except large ag tractors. I haver read that the bx is less tippy than the B series due to a lower center of gravity. Do you find this valuable? |

I'm also curious about the spacers. I don't have the BX24 manual to hand, but I think it advises against them. I assume this advise might be because of extra strain on the axle, but would there be a problem with spacers causing the rear wheels to interfere with the MMM wheels? (I don't have a mower so I can't picture it.)

I know someone a couple of years back made dual wheels for their bx. Seemed to work well for them. I can't remember who it was.Seems like it was in the customization forum on TBN Do you find this valuable? |

The thumbs on the backhoe folds back and locks out of the way when not in use. They double the effectiveness of the backhoe, and will not ever need to be removed.

I have both skid plates on a BX 24 and the ripper tooth. Works great. I do not have the mower, but I do have the snow blower. Just remove the little door and hook up pto shaft.
