Changing oil of 7,000 Watt GeneratorThis is a featured page

This is some general information regarding your first oil in any new engine. I purchased a new 7,000 Watt generator last year and have only 3.5 hr on it after a year. Thinking it was too soon to change with only 3.5 hrs on it I was going to leave it for a while yet, BUT. I changed my routine by this I mean I usually I check the oil before starting an engine and this engine always appeared very clean. BUT I started it first then shut it off to ensure oil level was good, what I discovered was the yellow plastic dip stick had a grey tinge, shining a light in the dip hole the oil appeared metallic in color.. I got the drain basin out and changed the oil and flushed it again to ensure I have good clean oil.
What I learned from this is although I start it from time to time this shouldn't of added any wear, I should have checked the oil after as the metal was settling out between starts allowing it to appear clean when checked before starting. I know this is useless information to some but new to me and but I wanted to share.
